LED Strip - Construction

The strip uses SMD technology with LEDs in a 5050 package. The underside has factory-applied double-sided adhesive tape to aid installation on a suitably prepared surface.

Control of LED strip

The strip requires a PWM controller supporting the 3 control channels used by the RGB configuration.

Important information

The stated power is a rated or theoretical value based on the parameters of the components used. Actual power consumption may be lower due to component tolerances, voltage drop and operating conditions.

Power and installation

The strip does not require an additional power-injection point when its length does not exceed 5m. Above this length, consider starting the next separately powered run, supplying the run at its far end, or adding another power point after the indicated length.

The 5m value is based on the electrical properties of the strip PCB. It indicates the length at which supply-voltage drop should not cause a noticeable reduction in LED brightness along the length of strip. Above this length, a brightness difference may become visible. If it remains acceptable to the end customer, the final power-feed arrangement is the responsibility of the installation designer or user.

Light emitted by LED strip

An RGB LED strip uses three independent color channels: red, green, and blue. By adjusting their relative brightness levels, it is possible to produce a very wide range of colors, including smooth color transitions, dynamic lighting effects, and white light created by activating all three channels simultaneously. Red, green, and blue are the primary colors of the additive color model, and the characteristics of red, green, and blue LEDs are stable, repeatable, and well understood — which is why these particular colors are used.

The strip requires a compatible 3-channel RGB controller that independently regulates the intensity of each color channel, most commonly using PWM modulation. Different output colors — other than the three primary colors — are obtained by varying the relative intensity of the red, green, and blue channels. Depending on the controller used, the user can select colors, adjust brightness, and activate predefined lighting scenes and dynamic effects.

RGB LED strips are designed primarily for decorative, effect, and ambient lighting of interiors, furniture, ceilings, display cases, and architectural elements.

LED strip - product overview

The strip operates at 12V and has a density of 30LED/m with an IP65 ingress-protection rating.

Sales unit of led strip

The sales unit includes a factory-prepared reel of LED strip with a length of 5m.

LED strip - power supply selection

The strip requires a power supply with an output voltage of 12V. Guidance: select a power supply with an optimum 30% power reserve above the LED strip demand.

Premium RGB LED strip for subtle accents

The RGB LED strip LED strip 150LED SMD 5050 RGB Premium IP65 is built for clean accent lighting. It uses SMD 5050 LEDs for stable color and smooth effects. The lower LED density helps reduce power draw. It also keeps the glow refined, not harsh. The IP65 coating protects against dust and water splashes. It works well in kitchens, bathrooms, and covered outdoor zones.

RGB LED strip: key benefits

  • 150 LEDs for balanced light and efficient consumption
  • SMD 5050 for consistent RGB color mixing
  • IP65 protection against splashes and dust
  • Premium components and selected LEDs for reliability
  • Designed for aluminum profiles and neat installations

Where to use it

  • Furniture, shelves, niches, and display lighting
  • Ceilings, coves, and aluminum LED profiles
  • Architectural accents and soffits
  • Signage, showcases, and decorative scenes

RGB LED strip power supply and voltage drop

Use a constant-voltage LED power supply matched to total wattage. Add a 20–30% power reserve for stability. Choose units with OVP, OCP, SCP, and OTP protections. Active PFC improves efficiency and operating comfort.

For long runs, use power injection to prevent dimming. Feed power about every 5 m for 12V systems. Feed power about every 10 m for 24V systems. Run wiring in a star layout when possible. Use proper wire gauge for current and distance. Seal outdoor connections against moisture.

Installation and cutting

This RGB LED strip can be cut only at marked cut points. Join sections using soldering or quality connectors. The adhesive backing speeds up mounting. An aluminum profile improves cooling and extends lifespan. Clean and degrease the surface before installation.

If you want stable colors and smooth scenes, this SMD 5050 RGB LED tape is a practical choice for premium builds.

FAQ

  • Which power supply should I choose?
Sum the wattage of all sections and add 20–30% reserve. Pick a model with OVP/OCP/SCP/OTP.
  • When do I need power injection?
Use it for long runs or visible brightness drop. Add power every 5 m (12V) or 10 m (24V).
  • Can I cut and reconnect the strip?
Yes, only at cut marks. Soldering gives the most reliable connection.
